Supervisor/Resource RN available for help onsite, team nursing within other oncology departments, mentor/mentee program for oncology certification and oncology specific training by oncology nursing society.
Frequent nursing skills/equipment used:
Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification, patient education, critical thinking, peripheral and central line lab draws, injection therapy and safe handling with chemotherapy/biotherapy.
Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice.
Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
Performs advanced nursing activities, which can include assisting with procedures using conscious sedation, placement of IV's, and administering chemotherapy drugs.
Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate.
Provides health and wellness education to individuals and groups.
Identifies, assesses and diagnose problems through patient assessment and interactions, and evaluates actual or potential health problems.
Provides leadership for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes.
Assists Nursing Supervisor/coordinator in the development of departmental standing orders.
Administer chemotherapy IV fluids via peripherally inserted catheters.
Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills.
Promotes professionalism when interacting with internal and external customers.
Serves as a resource person to staff in the clinic as appropriate.
Participates in patient, family, and staff teaching.
Adheres to hospital and department policy and procedures.
Documents patient care in the health care record according to standardsKeeps current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs.
